The semifinals U-16 Republic Cup, NE United will take on Rympei, Langsning on Nongthymmai

Shillong, January 22: Nongthymmai and Langsning qualified for the last two spots available in the U-16 Republic Cup with both sides registering their required victories in the final group stage games here on Monday.

In the early kick-off Nongthymmai came from two goals to one down to beat Umroh 4-2 in Group A, which saw them finish the round robin part of the tournament with seven points, tied with Little Star, but in front in second place on head-to-head.

Aibantalang Kharumnuid secured the opener for Nongthymmai in the eighth minute but Umroh replied well by scoring through Fairming Suting (20′) and Bankhraw Kharumnuid (29′). In the second half Nongthymmai equalised via a goal by Aibantalang in the 53rd minute before Mekeriaki Khyriem (67′) and Banskhemlang Nongdhar (69′) putting the team into a winning position.

In the other match Langsning finished at the top of Group B with a rollicking 12-0 win over Mawpat. Langsning ended with eight points, one ahead of Rympei, who were also tied with Sohra United, but in front on head-to-head.

There were two hat-trick scores for Langsning, who with Group A toppers NorthEast United are the only teams to remain unbeaten after the group stage.

Banrikupar Kharsohnoh (17′, 56′, 69′) and Daslianki Khyriem (47′, 61′, 65′) were the players to score three goals each, while the other scorers on the day were Samchaphrang Lato (4′), Shaniahskhem Mawthoh (10′), Enlakynsai Kharkongor (13′, 22′), Oliver Pale (37′) and Tremiki Lamurong (54′).

The semifinals will be held on Wednesday. At 9:00am NorthEast United will take on Rympei, while Langsning will meet Nongthymmai at 11:00am.
