The  Shillong Lajong will face Churchill Brothers FC Goa tomorrow in the Hero I-League

Shillong, Fen 04: The  Shillong Lajong will face Churchill Brothers FC Goa on 5th February as they head into their 7th home game of the Hero I-League 2018/19 season at the JN Stadium in Shillong at 5PM.

The tickets for the match will be available at the Mobile Centre and SSA Counter in Polo Ground.

After a narrow 0-1 defeat against Real Kashmir FC in their last home game, Lajong went on to win a vital away game against defending champions Minerva Punjab FC by a 0-1 margin on 25th January.

In the reverse fixture in Goa, Churchill Brothers were victorious by a margin of 4-2 where Lajong’s captain Samuel Lalmuanpuia and Samuel Kynshi found the back of the net. The Lajong youngsters hope to deliver a much stronger performance at home this time against Churchill Brothers and extend their winning run.

Going into Tuesday’s game, Lajong coach Alison Kharsyntiew praised his players for their performance in the last game and said, “The players have played really well in the last couple of games and hopefully they continue to play like they did in the last match. Consistency is the key now. As on Tuesday, it is our home game, we must take advantage of that. The last win was a confidence booster for us, hopefully, we can keep that going.”

Alison then praised his young players and said, “We are a young team. From the beginning of the season, I have been positive with my players. It’s difficult when we are losing, but I being their coach don’t give up. I will push them to improve, to be better players in the future.”

Shillong Lajong’s left-back Rakesh Pradhan is back from injury and is all set to feature on Tuesday. Talking about the mood among the players Rakesh said, “Everything is positive now with the team. Everyone is working hard. We are taking one step at a time as we have said to ourselves from day one. We had bad games,but we are not stuck at that, we are learning and we have moved on.”

Tuesday’s opponent, Churchill Brothers are currently at the 2nd position with just a point behind the leaders Chennai City FC having played a game more. They have won eight, drawn five and lost only twice so far. In their last game away to Real Kashmir, they came from behind to draw the game 1-1.

Churchill’s talisman Willis Plaza has been clinical up front as the forward has scored 16 goals so far. Talking about the threat Plaza possess Alison said,” Plaza is in a very good form now. Our defence has to work very hard, individually and as a team to stop him.”

Churchill’s coach Petre Gigiu spoke about the game and said, “It will be a difficult game for both the teams as Lajong wants to get out of the bottom and we want to be at the top. It will be a tough game and I hope the best team wins.”

Petre then spoke about Lajong and said, “It is a surprise for me to see Lajong at the bottom. When I see this team play, they play very good football. Also, in our game, yes, we won 4-2, but they played very well. I don’t exactly know what has happened to them, but they can really go up the table.”

“We haven’t come to this game to do something special. We will take this game like every other game. For us, there’s not much pressure as compared to Lajong who are in the bottom with plenty of pressure to win. We will play simple and see what happens,” he concluded.
