Mawkyrwat, August 11: The the Synjuk ki Seng Samla Shnong (SSSS), South West Khasi Hills District, an umbrella of all the Seng Samla Shnong Village Youth Dorbar of the District has submitted the memorandum to the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma seeking Provincialisation of Sngap Syiem College, Mawkyrwat under South West Khasi Hills District.
The Sngap Syiem College, Mawkyrwat had been established way back in the year 1985. Since then the Government of Meghalaya has brought it under Adhoc system in 1986. After Thirty Years of its existence and growth, the SSSS feel it is high time for the Government to provincialise both Degree and Higher Secondary Level. Ever since its establishment the enrolment has been rapidly increasing. However, the college is unable to keep pace with the urban counterparts owing to the inherent obstacles and limitations faced by a rural college like ours.
The youths of South West Khasi Hills District was deeply influence and motivated by your Speech on the day when You inaugurated the South West Khasi Hills District at Mawkyrwat, which you Say “Promise me that you will produce the best students and I will promise you that your college here will be provincialized”. In this Pass Three years the Students from Our District has work hard and secured good marks in various sphere of examination. Some students are in the Top 10 in the SSLC and HSLC.
Many Secured Distinction and First Division in examination conducted by MBOSE, NEHU and other Universities in the State and other State. Students from Sngap Syiem College especially in science Stream has also perform very well in the examination. Names of the Meritorious Students can be provided if needed. Hence, we feel that the District has produce the best students and our College that is the Sngap Syiem College deserves to be provincialized.
The Director of Higher & Technical Education, Govt of Meghalaya, Shillong through the Letter No. CE/GC/NOT-1/2009-2010/66, Dated: Shillong, The 26th May, 2015 has seek views and opinion from the Principal Sngap Syiem College, Mawkyrwat to delink the 10+2 and the Degree level and only the Degree level will be provincialised. As per the information, the Governing Body along with the faculty members of the College agree with the delinking proposal and we are also of the same opinion even though we would like to see in the future that the 10+2 level would also be provincialised.
In this Regard, in order to meet the expectation and fulfillment of the aspiration of the people of South West Khasi Hills District, along with its adjoining areas, it is high time that the Government should Provincialise this college. For time being provincilisation of the Degree level only may be done and we hope in the near future even the 10+2 level will also be provincialised. This would cater to the need of the Students of South West Khasi Hills in particular as well as the Students from outside the District or even the State of Meghalaya.
