There are not enough contractors to take path in the project work in the state: Dr Mukul

Shillong, July 21: The cabinet today approved PWD Road repair and maintenance policy, the idea is that, while the government is constructing road and maintenance is the most difficult task. The government has come out with this policy so that it will have a monitoring mechanism on the asset created and how to manage it.

The Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma after the cabinet meeting while speaking to media said that the objective of having this policy is to identify, like periodic repair emergency and routine maintenance. With this policy it will guide the PWD department in looking into the road condition in the state.

The Chief Minister said that there is not enough contractors to take part in government project, contractor are there but they are not qualified  the contractors should be more professional in doing work, the overall progress is not satisfactory but the state have improve a lot in comparison with the past. With the policy in place there will be the empower committee for machinery.

On the Indian Road Congress, the Chief Minister said that the guidelines frame is base on the all India bases; the government has gone beyond the rules in road constructions in the state, like super elevation and cubing while constructing the road. Meghalaya is known for having heavy rain and it is difficult to avoid damage of road.
