There is no full time CEO for the SPVS Lafarge development work activities delay

Shillong, August 12: There is no full time Chief Executive Officer  for the Special Purpose Vehicle Society  (SPVS) for  Development Lafarge Umiam Mining areas of Meghalaya and this has delay the development work activities for the areas around Nongtrai village.

The SPVS was form with the direction of the Supreme Court order way back to 2012, that Lafarge should earmark Rs. 90 per ton of Lime Stone transported from Nongtrai Vilalge to Bangladesh and the amount accrue should be utilized for the development work in the surrounding area with 50 km radius form the mining area.

The Chairman of the Committee is the Chief Secretary and there should be Chief Executive Officer to run the office but in the one and half years, there is no full time CEO in the office of the SPVS and the government has appointed the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills as the CEO and the Project Director of DRDA as member Secretary.

Sources close to SPVS  said that, the state government should appoint  full time CEO and full time member Secretary form retired government servants since this is only a society not a government  undertaking and the work of the society is limited only with 50 km radius form the mining site of Lafarge in Nongtrai villages East Khasi Hills District.

The amount that accumulates from the lime stone transported to Bangladesh by the Lafarge Company Limited annually is Rs. 18 to Rs19 cores only. With the absent of the fulltime CEO and the Members secretary the development work to be carried out by the SPVS in the area have been delay for one and half years.
