To provide quality food the New Food Plaza inaugurated in Rangiya Railway station

Maligaon, Dec 20: In another effort by N.F. Railway to provide the experience of better quality food to the railway travellers, a new Food Plaza was opened at Rangiya railway station on 14th December, 2018. It was inaugurated by Shri Sanjive Roy, General Manager, North East Frontier Railway in presence of senior railway officials from HQ and Rangiya Division apart from general public.

The Food Plaza at Rangiya was constructed under an initiative of IRCTC, is the 6th such commissioned Food Plaza in entire N.F. Railway. Other Food Plazas are functioning at Guwahati, Dimapur, New Jalpaiguri, Kishanganj and New Bongaigaon stations.

Rangiya is a very important junction station under N.F. Railway. Thousands of passengers regularly use this station for boarding and de-boarding trains. So this newly opened Food Plaza will be very much beneficial for passenger as they will be able to have freshly prepared snacks, meals and beverages at reasonable rates. Packaged food items will also be available for sell.

It may be mentioned here that Indian Railways is taking various initiatives to improve the catering related facilities on and off trains as per new Catering Policy – 2017. As per that policy Indian Railway has entrusted IRCTC to construct new sophisticated base kitchens for supply of fresh hygienic food for railway passengers. In this regard Food Plazas, Fast Food Units, Food Courts apart from Jan Ahaar stalls are coming up in various stations which will be managed by IRCTC.

Food Plazas are multi-cuisine plazas providing a variety of choices to passengers for eating breakfast to lunch/dinner. The quality and rates for items of food plazas are market-driven. Built up sizes of the Food Plazas also vary from 1000 sq ft to 4000 sq ft depending on number of footfall in that station. Apart from Food Plazas, Fast Food Units have also been set up in many stations where fast food items are available on self service basis to passengers on making payment.

Presently such Fast Food Units are available in stations like New Tinsukia, Dibrugarh Town, Mariani, Lumding, New Alipuduar and New Coochbehar.  Sizes of the Fast Food Units also vary from 250 sq ft to 1000 sq ft depending on number of footfall in that station.

The N.F. Railway also has plans to open more such Food Plazas in near future at important stations like Agartala, Badarpur, Katihar etc. while Fast Food Units are coming up at stations like Silchar, Diphu etc.
