Tomorrow MLCU will hold a ‘Silent March’ in protest against the death of Asifa Bano

Shillong, April 25: In the wake of the inhumane and unfortunate death of Asifa Bano an eight year old who was gang raped and murdered in Jammu and Kashmir, the Gender Initiative Committee of the Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong would like to organize a ‘Silent March’ on April 26, 2018 to condemn the heinous act.

Furthermore, we are also alarmed at the rate by which women and especially the children are being sexually abused and molested by brazen individuals, in our very own State on a regular basis and how reports of similar crimes floods the media houses every day.

As a University, we deem it crucial to come forward and raise our Voices for our mothers, daughters and sisters. Therefore, with regard to this, the University is organizing a Silent March to stand in solidarity against the crimes and issues faced by the women and the girl child in particular, Late Asifa Bano.
