Shillong, June 01: A two week Refresher Course for College and University Teachers was organised by the UGC – Human Resource Development Centre, NEHU, Shillong in collaboration with Department of Law, NEHU, Shillong. The inaugural function held on 1st June was presided over by Dr. K B Das,Assistant Professor,UGC HRDC NEHU.
Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla Vice Chancellor, NEHU, in his speech as a Chief Guest on the occasion talked about Law as a reflection of the will and wish of the society and if you want to study any society,you have to study the laws enacted by the society and one will come to know whether the society is developed or wild world.
He also mentioned that though law is a product of the society responsible for the social transformation in fact, consist of two modes Firstly, law changing the society which means that the law of the land compels the society to be changed according to it and secondly, Society changes the law as per its needs.
He hopes that this refresher course and the teachers participating in this programme will acquire complete knowledge about the Law and social reforms and to contribute to the society to bring about reforms and changes required with the change of time and society.
Others who spoke on the occasion are Prof. Chintamani Rout, Course Coordinator who in his speech said that he hoped that this programme will dwell into all the aspects of Law .He also urged the participants to make the most out of the programme and that they will benefit what they have learnt in these two weeks..
Prof. S Rama Rao, Director incharge, UGC- HRDC,NEHU, in his speech said that today is a day of remembrance as this programme have come after a very long time.as there was a huge demand for this programme and UGC have been kind enough to give this approval and to conduct Four more workshops.
He also mentioned that HRDC has spare no limit in its endeavor to impart knowledge to the teachers and urged the participants to kindly take the course on a serious note and to take full advantage of the opportunity provided. The Refresher Course is being attended by 35 numbers of participants from different parts of the country.
