West Garo Hills is the most affected district in the recent flood 1,20,098 people affected

Shillong August 16: A review meeting was held on 16th August, 2017 in the Conference Hall, Main Secretariat Building with all the important Heads of the Department to take stock of the prevailing situation arising out of the incessant and torrential downpour in almost all parts of the State. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Chief Minister I/c Revenue & Disaster Management Department.

While presiding over the meeting, the Chairman urged all the Departments to gear up for field level Officers to respond effectively. He also urged all the Departments to have a contingency plan to meet the exigencies and to mitigate and address the grievances of the affected people. The Additional Chief Secretary, I/c Revenue & Disaster Management Department briefed on the damages caused to household properties, Horti and Agricultural crops, public and private assets etc. So far three casualties have been reported in East Khasi Hills due to falling of trees following torrential rain. Ex-gratia payment is being made by the District Administration.

West Garo Hills is the most affected district where a total population affected is 1,20,098, household 22698, villages 136. So far, 30 relief camps have been set up – 24 relief camps under Selsella Development Block and 6 under Dalu Development Block. 209 numbers of boats have been requisitioned for ferrying and evacuating purposes. Water level is still high and increasing. The Committee has also decided to arrange 14 (fourteen) days Gratuitous Relief to the inmate of the relief camps
