What may comes AYWO will not allowed the GHADC to auction trees in Garo Hills

Tura, Dec 15: The general secretary of the A,chick Youth Welfare Organization(AYWO) Mr Sengbath Chambugong said that the organization opposed to resolution passed by the Executive Committee led by Dipul R Marak in the GHADC to cut down the ‘matured tress under its jurisdiction’ since GHADC is going through serious financial crisis.

The AYWO said that this is laughable, uncalled for and AYWO will never allow this to happen. The organization question, is  the NPP led EC trying to fool by stating that they will pay the pending salary for the staff by auctioning the ‘matured trees, is  the present EC so insensible that they will resort to destroy our Pride to make up for their ‘own created mess, is this the only way out to disburse salary for the staffs and to strengthen the financial position of our Council?

This resolution taken by the GHADC is destructive in nature, childish, immature and will have serious ramifications for our future generations. How can the public representatives think to destroy the future in order to overcome their own misdeeds, asked the general secretary of the AYWO Mr Chambugong.

The AYWO at the very onset warns the Present Executive Committee led byMr  Dipul R Marak, the organization demanded from the Executive Committee  to revoke this insensible and illogical  resolution to auction the so called ‘Matured Trees’ or else We will make sure that this will never happen and put our future at stake.

The AYWO asked contractors and firms not to apply for the advertisements being made inviting the interested parties to bid for the same. Since AYWO and other prominent NGOs will not allow the initiative and therefore it is advisable for all not to land up in unnecessary controversy.

Today when the world is under thread from global Warming is taking centre stage of serious engagement in various international forums and many Superpowers are continuously and aggressively discussing about the issue and efforts are being initiated to fight against the global warming.

But it seems, GHADC is either in deep slumber or ignorant to witness the international efforts to minimize the pollution. Even the Superpowers are very much worried and are concerned about the environmental catastrophe which is expected due to global warming, but our NPP led EC in Council, is on the other hand, acting shamelessly and exchanging our future with money; in contrast to our minimal effort to reduce the pollution.

The AYWO want to ask ‘Is the decision imperative’ ‘Thus your conscience allows you to formulate the decision which will eventually destroy our future, instead of protecting,  the so called custodians is trying very hard to destroy it permanently. This is gross violation of various Environmental Acts, International Commitment and undermines the very idea of ‘right to live’ enshrined in our Constitution.

Walking few kilometers in World Environment Day and planting of saplings will not do the very objective, but we have to push the agenda tirelessly and aggressively all round the year, not only on June 5.

It is ironical to see that the office staffs of the forest department are not on the same side for this issue. It is shameful and distasteful that the NPP led EC is trying to impose  their ‘insensible idea’ upon the right thinking A’chik people and thereby, proves that the present EC is incapable to solve the present financial crunch.

It is unacceptable and hard to digest ‘that the present financial crunch will be solved by doing this Act’. Mismanagement of Council funds, centrally sponsored schemes led GHADC to this shambles and we can’t afford to lose our pristine forest cover just only to ‘generate revenue’.

The AYWO urge all the stake holders to oppose the controversial order and AYWO will stand firm against the order, come what may and please, be informed that AYWO will not hesitate to protest against it, if need arises, we will also opt to protest aggressively too.
