Shillong, July 08: With the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) people were started murmuring about the scarcity of commodities in the market particular thus items that were used daily by common people, there is sudden rise in price, like soap, Rice, sugar Etc. Will the District Administration wait for official complaints on scarcity of commodities in market to act.
From the Meghalaya Chamber of Commerce who were dealing mainly on consumer goods, Mr R L Sethia told SP News Agency that companies who were supplying goods has stop supplying three days before implementation of the GST, and likewise the buyers, that is the traders stop ordering goods to let them check their stock position before buying new items in this GST regime.
This has led to scarcity of goods in the market, but this scarcity will be there in the market for few days, thing will be normalise within this month itself when goods arrived from manufacturing company to different destination, for Meghalaya normally it will take eight to ten days to reach to Shillong. This has not happen only in Meghalaya but in others part of the country as well.
Mr Sethia, said that this problems will be there but he hope within ten days or take by the end of this month market will be stable as usual, this thing happen of this new tax regime, but this GST will benefit the people price will come down in the market it a matter of time to settle down, this thing happen when thing change from old system to the new system.
But the confusion will be on rice, Atta, Maida, Suji, because till date no clear definition has been define which one is branded and which one is non branded, rice come to Meghalaya mainly from outside the state, Sugar earlier there is not tax but now under GST is taxable, Mustard Oil will not be affected price will be remaining the same. Tradrs are awaiting the tax rate of items once the tax rate is in place thing will be stable.
