A Photo Exhibition ‘Ki Jingkynmaw-Kynmo Tympang-Gisik Ra∙ani’ held at U Soso Tham

Shillong, Jan 19: A Photo Exhibition – ‘Ki Jingkynmaw- Kynmo Tympang -Gisik Ra∙ani’ celebrating the 51st Meghalaya Statehood Day, 2023 was opened to the general public from 19th to 21st January at U Soso Tham premises, Shillong.

The exhibition has been coordinated as an effort to showcase the materials which are part of an audio visual heritage that have been collected from across the state of Meghalaya and as a reminder of the rich history and legacy in the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills and the importance of preserving them.

The exhibition is also a portal through which one can look back into Meghalaya’s past, before it became a full-fledged State. Photographs were displayed on vitrine boards and glass cases.

The categories of photographs that are displayed included family photographs, Roger Bilham’s photograph collection of the Great Assam Earthquake, Ahmed Hossain’s photographs of ‘Iew Smit’, and of ‘Ka Rongbiria’ or ‘Siat Tiem’, Aly Shadap’s portrait photographs, and landscape photographs of Meghalaya.

The handpicked postcards of Meghalaya printed between the late 1800s and early 1900s both in Europe and India, a section wherein photographs were displayed through a legacy photo medium called transparency slides, old and rare books printed in Meghalaya, and more.
