Shillong, April 09: This meeting of the All India Congress Committee expresses its profound grief over the passing away the following AICC Members and prominent leaders of our party during the period from February 25-26, 2023 to till date.
The prominent AICC members who passed away are, Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister – was a world renowned Economist, Civil Servant, academician and statesman who served as Prime Minister of India from 2004 to2014.
He as born on 26th September, 1932. He rendered his services as Chief Economic Advisory, Governor of RBI and Dy. Chairman of the Planning Commission. In June 1991, under the Prime Minister, Shri P.V. Narasimha Rao he was nominated as Finance Minister.
As Finance Minister, he carried out several structural reforms and transformed the India economy. In 2004, the Congress led UPA came to power and was appointed as Prime Minister. He served as Prime Minister during two consecutive terms i.e. 2004 to 2014. We mourn the loss of this extraordinary leader.
The Congress Working Committee pledges to honour Dr. Manmohan Singh’s memory and carry forward his enduring legacy. His vision of economic reform, social justice, and inclusive growth will continue to inspire and guide us. He passed away on 26th December, 2024.
Shri Oommen Chandy, former Chief Minister of Kerala, passed away on 18th July, 2023 at Bengaluru at the age of 79. He was a towering stalwart who represented Puthupally constituency for over 53 years until his death, making him the longest serving member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly.
He was truly a mass leader and distinguished administrator who devoted his entire life to the service of the people. During his long and distinguished political career, he was the Chief Minister of Kerala from 2004 to 2006 and 2011 to 2016, the Leader of the Opposition from 2006 to 2011, and served as a minister in governments led by Shri K. Karunakaran and Shri A.K Antony, handling the portfolios of Labour, Finance and Home. He was serving as the General Secretary of AICC at the time of his demise and many others AICC members.
