Shillong, April 27: Assam University Student’s Union (AUSU) strongly and unconditionally condemn this act of violence, the targeted assault on a NEHU faculty member, Dr. Alok Kumar Singh, Department of Hindi, in his own office chamber, as is not just an attack on an individual faculty member, but it is an attack on the academic freedom, safety, and integrity of entire university community in the North-East India.
Such an attempt to beat, especially by the President NEHUSU is denounced in the deepest terms as it brings down the character of any Students Unions serving in the region. Whereas Universities are recognized for high standards and quality education to the rural youth from the various parts of North- East India and student’s union must play a role model for them.
The AUSU undeniably demands that the culprits should be nabbed and brought to justice in a time bound manner. Such criminals shall be behind the bar under BNS without delay. AUSU is with the NEHU teaching fraternity during this phase of anguish and distress.
AUSU demands from the authorities whether State Government or NEHU Administration that in no way such attempt to destabilize the academic system to implement the NEP 2020 shall be allowed and law and order shall be maintained in academic institutions.
