Ayurveda is one among the alternative system of medicine which treats the patients

Shillong, Oct 26: The North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy, an Autonomous Institute under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, Mawdiangdiang, Shillong, organised a One-Day Workshop on the occasion of 4th Ayurveda Day, 2019, on Friday.

The theme of the day was “Ayurveda for Longevity”. where Prof. (Dr.) Abhichal Chattopadhya, HOD, Dept. Of Maulik Siddhant, IPTR&SVVP, Kolkata delivered a lecture on the importance of Ayurveda. The inaugural function was graced by His Excellency Shri. Tathagata Roy, Honourable Governor of Meghalaya as Chief Guest.

Prof. (Dr.) A.C. Phukan, Dean (Academics), NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, and Prof. (Dr.) Abhichal Chattopadhya, HOD, Dept. Of Maulik Siddhant, IPTR&SVVP, Kolkata graced the occasion as Invited Guests. The function started by lighting of the lamp and floral garlanding of Dhanvantari, followed by felicitation of the guest.

A welcome address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.)P.K.Goswami, Director, NEIAH, which was then followed by honorary felicitation of 16 Ayurvedic Scholars from differents parts of North East India for their immense contribution to the field of Ayurveda in  North East India.

Prof.(Dr.) A.C. Phukan, in his speech said that Ayurveda as a system has been recognised by many countries and implemented in their lifestyles. He also emphasized  that  Ayurveda for longevity is not only for increasing the lifespan but also improving the quality of life.

Prof. (Dr.) Abhichal Chattopadhya, in his speech said that Rasayana (Rejuvenative) therapy is one of the measures for longevity of life. He also mentioned that all diseases cannot be cured, but it can be prevented with the benefits of Ayurveda.He also stated the benefits of panchakarma to remove the toxins from the vitiated body.

The Chief Guest, Mr Tathagata Roy, Honourable Governor of Meghalaya in his speech addressed that Ayurveda is one among the alternative system of medicine which treats the patients as a whole and not in parts, unlike the other system like Chiropathy, Osteopathy, etc.

He also acknowledged the government of India for setting up the Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy in Shillong which will give way for more research of AYUSH in North East India.

A vote of thanks was delivered by Smti. KimchinLhangum, Deputy Director, NEIAH, which was followed by National Anthem.The second technical session started shortly where Dr. Bhupen Barman, Associate Professor, Dept. Medicine, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong delivered his lecture.
