CCORMAU asked Mr. Conrad to constitute an inquiry into alleged corruption in MeECL

Shillong, April 06: The Coordination Committee of Registered MeECL Employees Associations and Unions (CCORMAU) has sent letter to the Chief Minister Mr Conrad K Sangma urging him to constituted an independent inquiry on the alleged corruption in the MeECL.

The Letter sent to the Chief Minister the CCORMAU said that they had a meeting recently and thoroughly deliberated on the recent events pertaining to the irregularities and Scams in MeECL that has been highlighted in the print and electronic media.

The allegation that has appear,  like , power theft and CMD”s inspection at Byrnihat area , Enterprise Resource Planning, Smart Metering, Saubhagya Scheme, Special tariff to the Byrnihat Industries Association (BIA), One Time Settlement Scheme, Concessions during Covid 19 provided to the Industries.

The Power Banking and Swapping which have created confusion and sense of insecurity among the employees, moreover, the recent resignation of the Independent Director MeECL, Smti. L. Kharkongor retired IAS, which also has been highlighted in the public domain, citing displeasure over the haphazard style of functioning of the Board of Directors MeECL.

The issue of Monetisation of land which could contravene with the Meghalaya Land Transfer Act 1971 being the reasons for tendering her resignation have filled the employees with much concern, since the issues are very important and serious in nature.

In the meeting the association has decided to urged the Chief Minister  Mr Conrad K Sangma to constituted an independent inquiry into all the aforementioned irregularities, the Minister In charge Power be relived from the Power Portfolio to facilitate a free and fair investigation.

That an Officer not below the rank of Additional Chief Secretary be appointed as Chairman Cum Managing Director, MeECL being the largest Public Sector Utility in the State.

The House further resolved to resort to agitations if the Government fails to address the aforesaid demands within the 26th of April 2021. However the CCORMAU pray that such measures may be avoided and therefore humbly request the honour of your kind intervention and swift necessary action, in the interest of the MeECL in particular and the state in general.

The letter that was sent to the Chief Minister sign by Mr. P K Shullet B Nongkhlaw, President, CCORMAU General Secretary, CCORMAU, Arju Dkhar M.F. Mawlieh the President,  General Secretary Association of Power Engineers MeECL Engineers’ Association.
