Cleaning drive was organized in Shillong city on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti

Shillong, Oct 02: To mark the 150 years of Gandhi Jayanti, cleaning drive was organized today in different part of the state Capital Shillong City, this also part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the Governor of Meghalaya, Mr Tathagata Roy today attended as Chief Guest in the Awareness and Cleaning drive programme initiated by joint effort of GORETO Socio-Cultural and Welfare Society, Shillong, Vivekananda Sangha, Oakland, Shillong and Greater Iew Polo Welfare Association, Polo Shillong at a function held at Polo, Shillong.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor of Meghalaya, Mr Tathagata Roy said hygiene is the key to good health and well being and stressed on the importance of keeping our homes, public places, localities and surroundings clean. In order to ensure cleanliness, the Governor said it is important to generate awareness to motivate communities to adopt sustainable cleanliness practices every day.

The programme was also attended by Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Mr A. L. Hek, Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills, Mr P. S. Dkhar, President, GORETO Socio-Cultural & Welfare Society, Shillong, Shri P.N. Sharma, Commandant of CRPF, 67 BN, CRPF personnel among others. Later the Governor and other dignitaries along with general public took part in the cleaning drive in Polo Market and its adjoining areas.

On this Gandhi Jaynati day the Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Mr P. S. Thangkhiew offering a flower tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Main Secretariat building premises, Shillong.

On this Gandhi Jaynati day, a  3 day District Level PMEGP Exhibition jointly organized by the KVIC, DCIC & MKVIB, Shillong at the State Central Library premises, Shillong. The objective of organizing the exhibition is to provide marketing support and exposures to the beneficiaries of REGP and PMEGP and also to motivate local youths to take up entrepreneurial activities through various Schemes of KVIC.

Minister, Urban Affairs, Hamletson Dohling, taking part in the Cleaning Drive organized by Shillong Municipal Board, Shillong Cantonment Board and the Meghalaya Home Guards and Civil Defense to observe the Swachh Bharat Anniversary here today at the Parking Lot, Opposite Anjalee Cinema.

Later the Minister also distributed awards to the winners of various competitions that were organized as a part of the programme. Various employees of the boards were also awarded during the occasion.
