Mairang, Jan 24: In connection with the upcoming General Elections to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly 2023 and compliance to the Standard Operating Procedure relating to the seizure and release of seizures made during the period when the Model Code of Conduct is in place and in order to avoid in convenience to the public and genuine persons and also for redressal of their grievances.
The “District Committee for Examining Cases of Seizure” in Eastern West Khasi Hills District, Mairang is constituted with Shri C.P. Mawkon, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Smti. V.A. Hynniewta, MCS, Nodal Officer, Expenditure Monitoring, Mairang and Shri B. Kharkongor, MFS, Treasury Officer, Mairang as Chairman, Convener and Member respectively.
The Committee shall suo-moto examine each case of seizure made by the Police or Static Surveillance Team or Flying Squad and where the Committee finds that no FIR and Complaint has been filed against the seizure is linked with any candidate or political party or any election campaign etc.
As per Standard Operating Procedure, it shall take immediate steps to order release of such cash etc., to such persons from whom cash was seized after passing a speaking order to that effect within seven days. The Committee shall look into all cases and take decision on seizure.This was informed by the Deputy Commissioner (Election), Eastern West Khasi Hills District, Mairang.
