Shillong, Nov 26: With the objective to eliminate Tuberculosis (TB), The District Tuberculosis Office, Ri Bhoi District was conducted a sensitization programme on Tuberculosis among the Industries groups at K. R. Pollymers industry (MIDC UMIAM) today.
Dr. W. Chyne, Medical Officer Tuberculosis Centre, Umsning created an awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of TB. He informed about the sign and symptoms of TB.
The general symptoms of TB disease include coughing with or without blood, weight loss, fever, and night sweats and that if anyone having any symptoms can visit the nearest Government testing centre which is provided free of cost. Dr. Chyne urges the gatherer that everyone has a vital role in eliminating TB.
The programme was chaired by Dr. E. Kalwing, District TB Officer, Ri Bhoi District where she sensitized on the effects of Tuberculosis at the District. She expressed the burden of Tuberculosis in the District where it was found that most TB patients are coming from the poor and vulnerable families.
She said that in order to eliminate TB, the Health Department cannot do it alone but need a support from all the individuals, groups so they can strive towards a TB free District.
Therefore, she urges everyone to support in adopting the TB patients by supporting them and enrol themselves as a Nikshay Mitra portal and accordingly the Health Officials will follow up with the Nikshay Mitras or the Donors.
The programme was attended by Dr. E. Kalwing, District TB Officer, Dr. W. Chyne, Medical Officer Tuberculosis Centre, Umsning, Shri L. Rajee STS, Umsning TU, representative from different industries group of Umiam areas and other health officials.
