Foundation Stone of B.Ed College laid at Jowai

Jowai, 30 November, 2012:The Education Minister, Prof. R.C Laloo today laid the foundation stone for construction of Dr RC Laloo laid the foundationBuilding in the District Headquarter of West Jaintia Hills District. The Foundation Stone was laid at the Old Government Boys Hostel, Mynthong, Jowai to be constructed at an estimate cost of 3.50 crores, and completion by November, 2014.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, Prof R.C Laloo said the need of having a B.Ed College in the District was a long desire of the public and the Government, he hopes with the construction of this college it will serve the purpose for many aspiring students seeking for a degree in B.Ed.

He further said the need of having this college is to have better trained and qualified teachers and to improve the standard of Education besides the qualified teachers will also be able to capture the intention and the interest of the students in the classroom.

He informed that the Government has sanction 1crore for setting up of Hotel for Rural Students in the District for the rural students, A Pine Mount School to be set up at Wahiajer,West Jaintia Hills District at the sanction amount of 1crore and five Residential Schools in all the five Blocks of the East and West Jaintia Hills District at a sanction amount of 15crores.

L.R Sangma, Secretary, Education, Government of Meghalaya informed that, the setting of B.Ed College was the felt need of this region and also the felt need of the Government for quite a long time and the Education Department has tried for a long time and today we could witness the laying foundation stone for the construction of the building.

She encouraged the youths aspiring to be teachers and desiring to take B.Ed course to come out with the minimum required percentage (i.e.50 % for ST and other 55%for others) in order to be at par with the rest of the country and to maintain the quality and standard of Education.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District, S. S Syiemlieh and S.B Chyrmang , Secretary, PWD, Government of Meghalay were the others who spoke at the function.

The Function was chaired by C.C.M Mihsil, Director of Educational Research & Training Government of Meghalaya and Vote of thanks was delivered by J.S Khonglah, District School Education Officer, Jowai.(SP News)
