Shillong, July 26: The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) has submitted memorandum to the Member secretary of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board, demanding that all Coke Factories in East Jaintia Hills should closed down.
In the memorandum the organisation mention that the Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills through a letter no. EJHD/Genl/261/2019/182 Dated 15 July 2021 stating that only coke factories granted CTO shall operate, the coke factories having granted only CTE but no CTO shall not be operated and coke factories having only SWA shall neither established or operated.
In connection with the order of the Deputy Commissioner the HITO would like to demand from you to immediately close down all the illegal coke factories who continue to operate within 5 five days without any valid documents.
The HITO would also like to know from your good office the sources of procurement of coal by these coke factories while the mining and transportation of coal in the state was still under restrictions. The memorandum was sign by the president Mr. Donbok Dkhar president.
