Shillong, June 3: The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization Jaiñtia Hills today has written to Chief Minister Mr. Conrad K Sangma expressed thier opposition to the proposed setting up of University by the Assam Goverment at Lum Siatmuid Khanduli West Jaintia Hills.
The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization Jaiñtia Hills would like to bring to your knowledge that on the 31 May 2021 a group of people representatives from Assam under the instruction of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Shri, Tuliram Ronghang accompanied by KACC MAC’s Smt, Rina Terangpi, Shri, Pawan Kumar, Shri, Headsing Rongphar VC HMB and others inspect the Land at Lum Siatmuid Khanduli West Jaintia Hills for the proposed construction of University by the Assam government without intimation to the Meghalaya government and the District Administration of West Jaiñtia Hills District.
In the letter HITO mention that the said land belongs to Meghalaya since the particular area where the proposed construction site was under the purview of the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council jurisdiction and it was also a known fact that the JHADC in recent years had just auctioned the pine trees grown at the particular area which was planted and maintained by JHADC itself.
As far as the knowledge of the HITO is concern that the proposed construction university is an encroachment of land by the Assam government of not less than three kilometers from the actual border therefore we urge the government of Meghalaya through you to act on the matter at the earliest to avoid any unexpected incident and circumstances to happen soon.
Time and again such illegal encroachment of land along the border occurs directly or indirectly so, therefore, it is high for these governments to raise voice against the Assam government since the border issue is the top priority listed in the election propaganda of your party during the last election.
