Inauguration of the “Golden Jubilee Community Hall” at Wahiajer donated by JHCMA

Shillong, March 11: The Pt. DeenDayalUpadhyay Community College (DDUCC) and Skill Development Centre, Wahiajer a constituent Community College of the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) successfully organized a workshop on “Organic & Integrated Farming in Modern Agriculture”. The programme saw a participation of 300 farmers from diverse groups of the community in Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya.

The resource persons of the workshop delivered practical demonstration and interactive sessions with hands-on experience in organic and integrated farming with modern agriculture.

Through the workshop, the farmers gained valuable insights and knowledge regarding symbiotic relationship between traditional organic methods and cutting-edge technological advancements. The objective of the programme is to empower the farmers of the community through such skill development programs in order to elevate them to achieve economic independence and to sustain their livelihood.

Following the workshop, the gathering witness the much anticipated inauguration of the “GOLDEN JUBILEE COMMUNITY HALL” which was generously donated by the Jaintia Hills Cement Manufacturer’s Association (JHCMA).

The programme commenced with a welcome song that was presented by the students of DDUCC which was followed by cultural activities performed by the students and representative of the farmers of the community.

The programme was chaired by Prof. (Mrs.) S. M. Sungoh, Principal incharge, DDUCC, who warmly welcomed all those present which includes Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, NEHU,(who joined online), Shri. R. K. Pareek, President, JHCMA who graced the programme as Chief Guest accompanied by other members of the association,  Prof. H. Lamin (Retd.), Founder Principal incharge, DDUCC, Shri. Andriew Sari, Secretary, Wahiajer Village, other members of the Wahiajer Village, dignitaries from NEHU, Shillong along with the Resource Persons, participating farmers, Students, Staff and other invited guests.

Prof. P. S. Shukla, Vice-Chancellor, NEHU through his online address emphasized on the indispensable role of agriculture in the nation’s development which emphasizing on the the importance of embracing organic farming practices to ensure environmental sustainability.

He also commended DDUCC for its proactive efforts in organizing different kinds of skilled-based training programs to transform the minds and life of the youths especially those who participated  in such programmes organized by the Community College and expressed his deep appreciation and utmost praise to the Jaintia Hills Cement Manufacturer’s Association (JHCMA) for their generous contribution to the development of the College to stimulate an academic environment especially amongst the Community of Wahiajer Village. While concluding his speech, he shared his vision to tranform DDUCC into a marketing hub in which NEHU has been focussing for quite some time.

The programme witness the formal inauguration of the GOLDEN JUBILEE COMMUNITY HALL” by Shri. R. K. Pareek, President, JHCMA who graced the function as the Chief Guest in the presence of the members of the JHCMA, dignitaries, Resource Persons, participating farmers, Students, Staff and other invited guests.

In his speech he congratulated the College administration for their achievements and continuous efforts in taking active initiatives aimed at empowering the youths and farmers of Community with the various Skill-Based Training Programmes organized on a regular basis.

On behalf of JHCMA, he also expressed his gratitude to all the dignitaries and invited guests, resource persons, participating farmers, staff, students and those present on this momentous occasion for to ensure its grand success.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Shri. Andriew Sari, Secretary, Wahiajer Village, Prof. H. Lamin (Retd.) Founder Principal incharge, DDUCC, Prof. D. Walia, Dean, School of Human &Environmental Sciences,  Prof. B.P. Sahu, Dean, School of Education, NEHU, Dr. F. R. Sumer, Librarian, NEHU and other dignitaries.

In their respective addresses, they were overwhelmed with initiative taken by DDUCC and congratulated with heartfelt gratitude especially to the Jaintia Hills Cement Manufacturer’s Association for their generous contribution to the College with the Community Hall for the benefits of students, youths and farmers of the community in the entire jaintia hills region and at the same time encouraging the farmers present who attended the workshop to continue working hard by stressing through valuable advice on the benefits of adopting organic farming for an clean, safe and healthy environment and promote chemical-free or practice natural farming in the days to come.

Shri. Andrew Sari, Secretary, Wahiajer Village, thanked the administration of DDUCC and NEHU for their concern and serious efforts to keep on organizing programmes from time to time that really benefits the youths and farmers of the community in Wahiajer and Jaintia Hills District.

He also expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Village to the Jaintia Hills Region to the Jaintia Hills Cement Manufacturer’s Association (JHCMA) for their valuable gift to the DDUCC with a COMMUNITY HALL and look forward for more interaction with expectation for more help and support from the esteemed association in the future.

The programme saw a felicitation of the Shri. R. K. Pareek, President, JHCMA with memento and concluded with the distribution of seedlings to all participants symbolizing a commitment by DDUCC and the community of Wahiajer Village to implement and support sustainable agricultural practices in their respective agricultural areas.

Finally the programme concluded with proposing of formal vote of thanks proposed by Shri. WolnishRymbai, Programme Coordinator, DDUCC followed by standing of the audience while singing of the National Anthem to formally closed the programme.
