Indian Railways relaxes refund rules to avoid crowding and practice social distancing

Maligaon, March 21: In-connection with the Govt. Advisory in wake of Covid -19 to avoid crowding and practice social distancing; Indian Railways relaxed Refund Rules for PRS counter generated tickets.

However, all rules for e-ticket remain same as the passenger does not need to come to the Station for a refund of the ticket.

This relaxation is for the journey period from 21st March – 15 April 2020. The details of modified refund procedures. When train canceled by Railways for the journey period from 21st March – 15th April 2020, refund across the counter can be taken on submission of the original ticket up to 45 days from the date of the journey, instead of the present rule of submission within 3 days or 72 hours.

If the Train  NOT canceled. But, a passenger does NOT want to perform the journey. The Ticket Deposit Receipt can be filed and submitted within 30 days from the date of the journey at the station, instead of the present rule of submission within 3 days.

The TDR can be submitted to CCO or  CCM Claims office for getting the refund with 60 days of the filing of TDR subject to verification from the Train chart, instead of the present rule of submission within 10 days.

For passengers who want to cancel tickets through 139 can get refunds across the counter within 30 days from the date of the journey, instead of the extant rule of up to scheduled departure of the train.

All railway passengers are advised to avail of the newly introduced facility if they are in need so that coming to railway stations can be avoided. By practicing social distancing we can restrict the spread of Covid-19 (Corona Virus).

It may be mentioned here that NFR is taking all precautionary steps to discourage people from taking non-essential journeys and to encourage social distancing by the passengers for their safety to restrict the spread of the virus.

Trains with low occupancy are already being canceled. Minimum distance markers are being put in place in locations like PRS and UTS centers in all important stations; so that a safe distance in between two people can be maintained.

The cost of platform tickets in many stations over NFR has been increased to discourage people from coming to stations other than essential purposes.
