The Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides celebrated the World Environment Day 2021 under the theme “ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION” via a Webinar on Zoom Platform. Mr. Joel Blah Kyndiah, an Environmentalist was the first resource speaker delivered a session about Climate Change and the Pandemic.
He emphasized on the importance of environmental preservation while also reminding us of the repercussions in form of degradation resulting from rapid urbanization.
He also pointed out the significance of safe-guarding our environment for a sustainable future for all. Ranger – Megha P. Yadav from the Meghalaya Open Ranger Team was the second resource speaker who conveyed a session on the theme – Ecosystem Restoration.
While speaking on the topic she had appraised the Bharat Scouts and Guides for undertaking activities through global goals called SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) adopted by the United Nations.
She also called for an appeal to change our habits in order to save our environment and limit the damage that we cause on a daily basis. A video presentation on Plastic Tide Turners – a global youth movement to combat plastic pollution around the world was presented the State Coordinators for the project. Mrs. A. Swer, State Secretary on her concluding remarks thanked both the guest speakers for their extensive sessions that they had imparted.
She also shared a few words on the importance of the day and its celebrations. An online Slogan and Poster competition was also conducted for the youth to mark this auspicious day where the winners will be presented with Digital Certificates.
