Shillong, Dec 14: Meghalaya’s four-match winning streak in the Vijay Hazare Trophy came to an end in Jaipur today as they lost to Tripura by nine wickets.
Going into today’s contest, which was the last round, both Tripura and Meghalaya were unbeaten, though the former were leading the Plate Group standings on net run rate. For the fifth time in succession, Meghalaya lost the toss and were made to bat first.
This time, however, the opposition’s bowlers were far too strong and Meghalaya were dismissed for just 116 in 39.5 overs. Guest professional Chirag Khurana top-scored at the top of the order with 55.
Chengkam Sangma (1/25) broke the opening stand in the very first over of Tripura’s chase but that was Meghalaya’s only success and their opponents cruised to 118/1 in 28 overs for victory.
The win means that Tripura claim top spot in the table but Meghalaya can be proud of their runners-up position with four victories and just one defeat.
