N.F Railway celebrates 75th Independence Day Mr. Anshul GM hoisted the National Flag

Maligaon, August 17: The  Northeast Frontier Railway celebrated the 75th Independence Day of the Nation in befitting manner. The central programme was held at the NFRSA complex at Maligaon, where Shri Anshul Gupta, General Manager of N.F. Railway hoisted the National Flag.

The General Manager also inspected an impressive Guard of Honour given to him by RPF contingents and Bharat Scouts & Guides. The Independence Day was also celebrated in all the five Divisions of N.F. Railway viz. Tinsukia, Lumding, Rangiya, Alipurduar and Katihar, where the Divisional Railway Managers hoisted the National Flag in presence of Divisional railway officials. This year the celebration was observed by following all the COVID – 19 protocols.

In his speech the General Manager specially mentioned about N.F. Railway official Miss Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, who won Silver medal in Weightlifting event at the recently concluded Tokyo Olympic. He also mentioned about the achievements of Cyclists and Table Tennis players of N.F. Railway who won medals at National level tournaments.

General Manager mentioned that to deal with the pandemic scenario, one Oxygen generator plant has already been commissioned at Railway hospital, Lumding. Six other oxygen generator plants are in various stages of procurement for Railway hospitals at Maligaon, New Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh, Alipurduar, New Jalpaiguri and Katihar.

It may be mentioned here that, inspite of various COVID related restrictions in place, N.F. Railway managed to maintain the supply of essential commodities, food grains, medicines etc to all the landlocked NE states apart from a vast area of Bihar and West Bengal by running freight and parcel trains. 7718 rakes of freight trains were run from January to July.

This is an improvement of 32%. The average speed of good train increased to 46 kmph from 34.2 kmph during the same period of last year. To help local economy, freight loading in NFR areas increased to 5.230 million tonnes.

This is an increase of 28.8%. During January to July; 537 rakes were interchanged with Bangladesh an improvement of 262.8%. In passenger segment; 52 Mail/Express and 7 passenger trains have been restored till July, 21. Indian Railways first ever “State of Art” Tejas Rajdhani with sleeper coaches was introduced in last February from Agartala.

For improvement of safety, 121.42 TKm of Through Rail Renewal was completed from January to July. The Periodic Overhauling time of BG wagons has been reduced to 3.33 days during April to June, which is the best over India Railways.

The N.F. Railway is also taking Various initiatives to promote tourism in NE region like riverside restaurants at Bogibeel, Eco-tourism facilities at the bank of Brahmaputa at Amingaon, running of Premium Vistadome coaches in Alipurduar, Halflong  etc areas, Toy Trains at Tawang.

On the occasion the General Manager also awarded forty four railwaymen for their exemplary service during the year, Mr. Anshul Gupta, GM of N.F.
