Shillong, Oct 21: The Meghalaya Chief Minister and Chief of NPP Mr. Conrad K Sangma campaigned for second consecutive day in the hill area under Rajabala constituency and sought for vote in favour of “secularism” and “development”.
He said that people should not divide themselves into caste politics and vote for candidate, who will work for the overall development of the region, the Chief Minister campaign in Garo dominate area of Takimagre under Rajabala on Thursday.
He has been stationed in the Garo area of Bhajamara since Wednesday to unite the voters of hill area to vote in favour of NPP candidate Abdus Saleh. In the ensuing by-election scheduled for October 30, of the 5 candidates in fray, two are tribal candidate and they have been seeking vote based on the community tag.
Mr. Conrad Sangma asserted that NPP will win with a thumping majority and there should no be room to communalise election and vote for a party that was popularised and founded by Lt PA Sangma. He also said that NPP should be pride for everyone in Garo Hills and work unitedly to strengthen NPP.
The NPP candidate Abdus Saleh said that the opposition parties are sacred, so that have termed him ‘outsider’ in plain belt and ‘rori’ in hill area of Rajabala constituency. He told the crowd at Takimagre that he has been MLA for three consecutive terms in Mahendraganj, which has mixed population.
“I am not communal, I have been a minister in Meghalaya Govt and will continue to work for the people of elected,” he said. He said that Garos and others in Garo Hills has barely 14 lakh population but NPP’s founder Lt PA Sangma has envisioned a party, which has now become one of the eight national party.
During the election campaign, a senior UDP supporter Aikos Momin was welcomed in NPP by Conrad K Sangma and NPP candidate Abdus Saleh. Bajendoba MLA Pongseng Marak, Williamnagar MLA Marcuise Marak, North Tura MLA Thomas Sangma, MDC Lenikar Sangma and a host of NPP leaders are campaigning to drum up support for NPP for Rajabala constituency.
