Shooting association of Meghalaya asked for an open and Indoor Shooting Ranges

Shillong, May 03: The Shooting Association of Meghalaya in a memorandum sent to Mr Zenith M Sangma the Sport and youth affairs Minister government of Meghalaya asked the state government to provided a place both indoor and outdoor  for imparting training to thus people who are taking shooting as one of  their sport activities.

In the Memorandum SAM said that as part of an effort to promote Shooting Sports in Meghalaya, the Shooting Association of Meghalaya (SAM) was formed and registered under the Societies Registration Act XII of 1983, on 18th July 2012 in Shillong in presence of the observer from the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).

We are pleased to inform you that the Shooting association of Meghalaya (SAM) has recently been accorded affiliation by the National Rifles Association of India (NRAI), (copy enclosed).which is the national apex body in the Country.

SAM was part of the 1st North East Shooting Championship held at Aizawl from the 18th to 23rd March 2013, where we participated in 2 categories. The .22  standard pistol 25 meter and, 10 meter .177 air pistol category and managed to bag the Silver medal in the .177 with a score of 365 missing the Gold by 2 points. A total of 198 Shooters participated in the NE Championship.

Recently the SAM officials, namely Shri. John F Kharshiing, President and the undersigned (General Secretary) attended the Annual General Meeting(AGM) of the NRAI at Faridabad on 5th April 2013, where we are happy to inform you that Mr. Neil Sootinck, General Secretary, Shooting Association of Meghalaya (SAM), was voted unanimously into the Executive Committee, of the Governing body of the NRAI.

In this regard, we would also like to inform you that a delegation led by NRAI President including our John F Kharshiing, President, SAM, called on the Mr. Jitendra Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, and appraised him on the lack of Shooting Sport infrastructure in Meghalaya.

We are happy to state that the Hon’ble Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, has assured us that his Ministry would examine and see if the SAI Complex at NEHU, Shillong could be further upgraded so as to accommodate Shooting Ranges.

We also informed the Union Minister that the Association is also arranging alternative land to which the Union Minister, stated that his Ministry would actively consider recommending such a proposal provided the State Government of Meghalaya, forwarded and recommended such a proposal at the earliest.

In view of the efforts to promote Shooting sport in Meghalaya, considering the potential from the recent medal win, and with these upcoming projects and developments, we request your kind intervention in recommending for setting up Shooting Ranges in at least three districts of Meghalaya. So as to initiate and encourage Shooting sports within the State of Meghalaya.(SP News)

    I would like to know what step, measure and procedures is needed for an individual person to take part as a shooter . Do we need to be a govt. civil service or its open to all as a sports .
