Shillong, August 27: Smti Shaili Dhagat, a former Shillongite, won Mrs International World Ambassador, 2019-20 in an International beauty pageant held at Encore Melaka, Malaysia.
She began her pageant journey only last year in Guwahati where she won Mrs India International Global title, making her eligible for going to Malaysia.
Around 30 countries including USA, China, Japan, Russia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Hong Kong, Sweden, Hungary, etc took part in the competition held on July 28.
The pageant was organised by BRAVE Foundation, which offers a platform for married women and single mothers.
“I am fortunate to make my country proud by winning the crown as Mrs International World Ambassador 2019-20,” she said in a letter to the Union Tourism Minister Mr Prahlad Singh Patel while thanking the ministry for presenting her with the national flag to represent the country in the pageant.
Shaili was in Shillong till a couple of years ago when her husband, a pilot, was posted in the Eastern Air Command headquarters of the Indian Air Force here. She is also a columnist in The Meghalaya Guardian for several years and other publications.
