Shillong, August 27: Strike of DM Cardiology students illegal; It is surprising how two DM Cardiology students are exploiting the Director, NEIGRIHMS in connivance with some senior faculty of Cardiology by threatening to go on strike so as to make public suffer. Let us put the record straight.
Two DM Cardiology students were supposed to appear for examination in June and July 2018. But they neither fill up their examination forms nor appear for theory examination scheduled on 25th June at 9 A.M , when the invigilators informed the controller examinations at 10 A.M that both the students of DM Cardiology didn’t turn up for their theory paper.
It is very unfortunate that the students took the system for granted by not presenting themselves for examination and are now threatening to go on strike, which seem to be a deep rooted conspiracy, by some vested elements, who act behind the curtains and make the students as scapegoats by encouraging them to make mistakes and confront the administration of NEIGRIHMS.
NEIGRIHMS administration has always tried to extend all possible help to all students of NEIGRIHMS and all examination including MD in various specialities, MBBS, M.Sc Nursing etc. are conducted in time and Director, NEIGRIHMS tried his best to motivate the DM Cardiology students to appear in exams in June-July but, it is very unfortunate that on one side the students didn’t appear for examination and on the other side began writing very nasty letters to Director using words like “your convenient amnesia”, calling ‘Director by name’, alleging Director of destroying academic courses and threatening to go on strike.
Despite all this behaviour and attitude of students of DM cardiology, NEIGRIHMS administration worked constantly in consultation with NEHU and announced new dates for examination of the DM Cardiology in Oct/Nov 2018 and the dates have been communicated to the appearing students.
All the examinations conducted are confidential and there should be no role of students to dictate terms for conducting their examination. HoD, Cardiology himself preferred to remain away from moderation of theory examination papers and theory papers shall be evaluated by external and internal examiners.
Practicals shall be conducted by HoD Cardiology under the supervision of external examiners, which is a procedure throughout the country. So there should not be any threat to go on strike as the basic issue of conducting the examination has been addressed. However, there is no provision in rules for extension of period of any academic course.
All the examinations including DM Cardiology are conducted as per the guidelines from NEHU and Examination section NEIGRIHMS and Director, NEIGRIHMS has nothing to do with the procedure. The other DM students of 3rd year, 2nd year and 1st year has nothing to do with the present examinations as they are due to appear in coming sessions.
They should therefore concentrate on their academics rather than getting misguided by some vested interests in the Department. Siad Dr K K Pandita Public Relations Officer NEIGRIHMS in the press statement today.
