Tura, July 06: Mr Mackenseng Sangma President and Mr Kalkam Sangma general secretary of the AYWO Garobadha Regional Branch expressed their serious discontentment and apprehension towards the Permission given to hold an annual Charantala Mela by the District Administration in Selsella Babetpara West Garo Hills Meghalaya.
The AYWO said that it is disheartening to learn that the administration is allowing holding a huge event called Mela amidst ongoing lockdown. Since it’s an event which will involved with huge numbers of crowd, the organisation see this move as an uncalled for.
The AYWO mention that it is obvious and certain that people from across the the nation would participate in the Mela and to maintain SOPs will be next to impossible and it will be an uphill task for even the authorities to make the Protocols implemented fully and purposefully.
The organisation fear that evens the people from containment zones will also participate in this event, which we believed, will be a blunder in fighting against Covid19. AYWO Garobadha regional branch urged the District Administration to revoke the orders immediately for better interest of Garo Hills.
The Organisation stated that they do not have any grudges for holding the Mela neither we intend to disrupt the gathering but they wanted Garo Hills to be safe nor they don’t want to see the event as super Spreader.
The upcoming event will involved the people from all walks of life from different parts of the nation, a responsible Organization, AYWO Garobadha Regional Branch wish to urge the concerned Authorities to cancel the permission for the Mela so that they can contain COVID-19, said Mr Mackenseng Sangma president and Kalkam Sangma General Secretary of AYWO Garobadha Regional Branch in the press statement today.
