The BOC organized  Outreach Programme on National Nutrition Mission  Abhiyan in Polo

Shillong, Nohprah 21: The Bureau of Outreach and Communication (BOC), Regional Office, Meghalaya, and Tripura Region, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India organized an Special Outreach Programme on National Nutrition Mission (POSHAN Abhiyan) at JNSComplex, Polo Ground, Shillong today.

The main objective of this special outreach programme is to disseminate information to the masses on National Nutrition Mission (POSHAN Abhiyan). At the outset, Shri T Hynniewta, Station Director, DDK, Shillong, as the Chief Guest said that not only children should have nutritious food but mothers too because having a sound mind, work will become progressive.

He also added that we need to consume traditional nutritious food for a healthy lifestyle since nowadays people are consuming more of the modern (KFC, Maggie, Pizza, etc) day food. Further he added that the BOC has been entrusted by the Government to organized such programmes so that information on the flagship schemes like today’s programme are being disseminated to the beneficiaries.

Shri J Gangte, Head of Programme, North Eastern Service of AIR, Shillong as a Guest of Honor said that it was an important scheme to spread the message, in order to have a healthy life especially for children from 0-6 years of age. He further added that everyone present at the occasion were equally benefitted and that they can also spread the message to people through this Special Outreach Programme.

Shri E Kharmalki, Director, Social Welfare Department said that main aim of POSHAN Abhiyan is to achieve Nutritional Status of Children from 0-6 years, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers. He also added that it caters to those in need and also for prevention from malnutrition. He further added that we need to address challenges faced by the NNM, i.e, Anganwadi Centres and Anganwadi workers in order to achieve National Nutrition Mission (POSHAN Abhiyan).

Shri Gary Nengnong, POSHAN Abhiyan Consultant, a resource person in the programme gave a PowerPoint presentation on POSHAN Abhiyan.

Dr Engam Pame, Director, BOC, Shillong said that the main initiatives of Bureau Of Outreach and Communication is to create well informed communities keeping in view of the national Objectives of the Government to reach the last man in the last mile. He further emphasized that besides information dissemination, the activities of BOC also include social mobilization for increasing participatory advocacy. He also spoke on the National Nutrition Mission (POSHAN Abhiyan).

Mr Nigel Hujon presented a song on nutrition during the Special Outreach Programme. The function was also attended by representatives from All India Radio, Doordarshan Kendra, BOC Guwahati, PIB, NGOs, Stakeholders, students and Anganwadi workers.
