The Central Silk Board emphasized on scientific practical about Muga rearing activities

Tura, Sept 21: The Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India MESSO,P-4 Unit Mendipathar has organized Farmers’ Field Day for Muga farmers today at Mendipathar ,North Garo Hills , Meghalaya maintaining all the SOP of COVID-19.

A total of 25 progressive farmers and new Muga farmers from Mendipathar and Resubelpara have attended this programme. Smt. S.G. Momin District Sericulture Officer, Govt. of Meghalaya was the Chief Guest and   Shri  Vikram Kumar , Scientist-B & OIC, CSB, MESSO,P-3 Unit Rompara , & Dr. K Indira Kumar, Scientist-B & OIC, CSB, MESSO,P-4 Unit Tura were Special Guest of this programme.

Through this programme we emphasized on more scientific practical knowledge about Muga silkworm rearing activities. The chief guest Smt S.G Momin has inaugurated this Field day programme & shares her experience with our framers. She has discussed value addition. She also highlighted how the Govt. of Meghalaya thinking about this.

The Special Guest  Shri V. Kumar has explained how Central Silk Board, ,Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India takes a major role in conducting the various training programme for the socio economic development of this district  and discussed on maintenance of food plants for brushing and late age silkworm rearing .

Another Scientist Dr.K. Indira Kumar has a discussion with new muga farmers about proper method of brushing and gives hands on training on this. Sri Mahasankar Majumdar, Scientist-B and Officer–In-Charge of this unit has discussed about disinfection procedure of rearing field  pre and post rearing.

Late age rearing techniques, i.e Late age plot management, proper worm transfer method, he added that if we take a little care during the worm transfer ,we will be able to produce 20-30% more Cocoons.

Mr. Majumdar further explained how CSB, MESSO supported their farmers  during lock down period and he also added that “at this time MESSO, P-4 Unit Mendipathar supplied  quality seeds  to the farmers through State Governments and farmers got good profit by Muga rearing.

The programme ended by vote of thanks by Sri S.G Momin, Senior Technical Assistant of this unit. & Sri Mahasankar Majumdar Scientist-B and OIC, MESSO, CSB, P 4 Unit, Mendipathar who presided over this Field Day programme.
