Shillong, March 26: The A∙chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) expresses profound dissatisfaction regarding the ineffectual administration of the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC).
Since the final week of January, the Commission has been operating without a duly appointed Chairperson and two Members, and the state government has conspicuously failed to effectuate necessary appointments.
This dereliction of duty has engendered a palpable sense of grievance among aspirants, particularly as the MPSC has refrained from issuing notifications for new recruitment posts in the calendar year 2025. Such inertia is alarming, considering the burgeoning number of unemployed youth in the state.
Further exacerbating the discontent is the Commission’s contentious decision to proceed with inters views for the Meghalaya Agricultural Services (MAS) and Meghalaya Civil Services (MCS) positions in January. The interviews were conducted under the oversight of a diminished panel comprising only the Chairperson, two Members, and a singular external expert.
This deviation from the prescribed norms undermines the principles of impartiality and meritocracy, thereby fostering an environment susceptible to nepotism and favouritism. The absence of the requisite number of panel members has compromised the credibility and integrity of the selection process.
In light of these egregious lapses, the ACHIK Organization resolutely urges the state government to initiate immediate corrective measures. Accordingly, they advance the following demands, Appointment of Eminent Bureaucrats, The Chairperson of the MPSC should be a distinguished retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, possessing extensive administrative acumen and a commendable service record.
The Members of the Commission must similarly be individuals of impeccable integrity and exceptional expertise in their respective domains to uphold the Commission’s stature and credibility.
Expeditious Recruitment Procedures, The MPSC must ensure the prompt issuance of recruitment advertisements and the timely conduct of examinations in strict adherence to the Government’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Additionally, the Commission should institute robust mechanisms to enhance transparency and accountability in all recruitment processes. A definitive timeline of six months must be established for the implementation of these measures.
Regional Accessibility for Garo Hills Candidates, In the interest of equitable access, all candidates from Garo Hills seeking employment through the MPSC should be facilitated to attend their interviews at the MPSC Centre in Tura.
The prevailing requirement for candidates to undertake financially burdensome travel to Shillong for a solitary interview is untenable. Providing localized access will alleviate the excessive expenditures incurred on lodging, food, and transportation, thereby promoting inclusivity and fairness.
The ACHIK Organization remains steadfast in its expectation that the Government of Meghalaya will expeditiously address these concerns. Immediate intervention is imperative to restore the operational functionality and integrity of the MPSC, thereby ensuring the aspirations of deserving candidates are not jeopardized. We trust that our submissions will be accorded the earnest consideration they warrant.
