Shillong, March 03: The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills  is to inform all public that with the onset of the windy season the following are the safety precautions to be taken.

Check the house; secure loose tiles and carry out repairs of doors and windows, Remove dead branches or dying trees close to the house; To avoid any incidences especially fire, get wiring/electricity properly checked at home.

Ensure safe keeping of all objects such as lumber piles, loose tin sheets, loose bricks, garbage cans, sign boards, etc which can fly away in strong winds.In case of fire Incident, people should not panic. Affected families should be evacuated to safe places.

Before a Forest Fire, Stay informed: Pay attention to local weather forecasts and fire danger ratings.Create a defensible space: Clear flammable materials, such as dead leaves, branches, and debris, from around your home and property.Have an emergency plan: Develop a family emergency plan, including a communication plan, evacuation routes, and a meeting point.

During a Forest Fire, Stay calm: Keep a radio or TV tuned to local news for updates and instructions.Follow evacuation orders: If ordered to evacuate, do so promptly and follow the recommended evacuation route. Stay away from the fire.

Avoid traveling to areas near the fire, as this can put you and others at risk.Keep windows and doors closed: Prevent smoke and embers from entering your home. Use N95 masks: Wear masks to protect yourself from smoke and ash.
