The Governor assured the Ex-Servicemen of all assistance from the Government

Shillong, May 25:   An Ex-Servicemen (ESM) rally was organised by Headquarters 101 Area and Rajya Sainik Board, Meghalaya at Assam Regimental Centre, Happy Valley, Shillong.  The event was attended by more over 800 veterans , Veer Naris, World War II Veterans, Widows and children hailing from Meghalaya.

The rally was graced by Shri Tathagata Roy, Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya, Major General PK Saini, officiating General Officer Commanding, Headquarters 101 Area, apart from other civil and military dignitaries.  In his address to the gathering, the Hon’ble Governor lauded the veterans for their services to the nation and assured them of all assistance from the government.

The rally was specially aimed at Ex-Servicemen, war veterans, disabled soldiers and war widows (Veer Naris) to show that they remain inseparable members of the Armed Forces fraternity even post retirement and hence focused on the theme of the Year “Year of Next of Kin”.

A number of facilitation stalls from various welfare agencies and organisations of the Army were set up at the venue with a focus to resolve pension and entitlement related problems being faced by the veterans and war widows.

A  medical camp, fully staffed with specialist doctors and medicines, was also in place. Veer Naris, war veterans and handicapped brethren were felicitated during the event by the Hon’ble Governor and officiating GOC. The rally provided an interactive platform and mitigated issues related to pension, medical, healthcare, re-employment and redressal of grievances.
