The HYC urged upon the Meghalaya State Goverment to scrap the LOA issued to BECIL

Shillong, May 17: Hynniewtrep Youths’ Council-CEC on 11.05.2021 had written to the Chief Minister, the Deputy Chief Minister and the Minister i/c Power Department, Government of Meghalaya to oppose the issuance of LOA to a Company from Noida, U.P known as Broadcasting Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL) for the purpose of “Contract of Operation and Maintenance of 56 Nos. 33/11 KV sub-stations” in the State on various grounds as stated in the said Letter.

It is also to state herein that on Research by the organisation of the antecedents and experiences of the Company in question i.e. BECIL it is learnt that BECIL provides project consultancy services and turnkey solutions encompassing the entire gamut of radio and television broadcast engineering.

It is a Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and not under the Ministry of Power. So basically, BECIL’s primary business and expertise is in radio and television broadcasting in India and abroad.

Nowhere it is found, that it has any experience in the operations and maintenance of Electrical Sub-station as claimed by the Company and approved by the Management of MePDCL with the blessings of the Power Department, Government of Meghalaya.

How can MeECL and the Power Department under the leadership of our Hon’ble Minister hand over the assets of the corporation to an agency which has little or no knowledge or experience in the concern field without first verifying the expertise of the Company.

This is an irresponsible act on the part of the Management under the leadership of the current CMD and it reflects badly on the present Government and the Minister Concern.

It also reflects badly on the leadership of the State that any Tom, Dick and Harry can come and claim an experts on any subject in our State and if it suits one and any person concern, we can just throw away whatever assets we have to such person or entity without taking the pain of verifying the expertise of experiences.

The HYC urged upon the State Government to re-evaluate this decision and scrap the LOA issued to BECIL forthwith for the welfare of the citizens of the State as stated in our Letter referred to above, said Mr. Roy Kupar Synrem General secretary HYC.
