Maligaon, August 14: This day, The 14thof August has been declared by the Government of India as the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day to remind the present and future generations of India, aboutthe pain and suffering faced by the people during the nation’s partition.
The partition of India depicts the story of unprecedented displacement of human and forced migration of people. It is also a story of how ways of life and ages of co-existence came to a sudden end, forcing millions to seek new establishments in environments that were alien and resistive.
In fact, this day brings to light the agony, sufferings and pain of millions whose lives were forever altered by the partition. The people of India, on this day, salute those sons and daughters of the country who had to sacrifice not only their ancestral homes but also their lives during the partition of India.
Along with the rest of the country, N. F. Railway also observed the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day as part of the dark phase the nation went through at several railway stations under the jurisdiction of N. F. Railway,through exhibition stalls, hoardings andphotographs displaying the pain undergone by Indians due to the partition of India in 1947.
Different programmes have been organised at the N.F. Railway Headquarter in Maligaon and Katihar, Kishanganj, New Jalpaiguri, SiliguriJn, Balurghat, Darjeeling, Alipurduar, New Coochbehar, Falakata, New Mal Jn, Kokrajhar, RangiyaJn, Barpeta Road, New BongaigaonJn, Goalpara Town, Rangapara North, Gohpur, Guwahati, Lumding, Silchar, Agartala, Dimapur, Jorhat Town, MarianiJn, North Lakhimpur, Dibrugarhand New Tinsukia stations.
Partition pain can never be forgotten. Millions of Indians were displaced and many lost their lives due to mindless hate and violence. The observance of this day will help remind everyone, especially the young school children who attended the exhibition,to remove social division and disharmony, furtherstrengthening the spirit of oneness.
