Shillong, August 24: With the aim of creating adventure sports culture amongst the youth and motivate students to undertake outdoor activities, a one day Trekking Cum Treasure Hunt was conducted in the West Jaintia Hills district by NCC Gp Shillong.
The 136 NCC cadets along with Boys And Scouts and students of Thomas Jones Synod College and Government Higher Secondary Schools in Jowai participated. This initiative is the test bed activity of series of similar initiative planned by ADG NCC,NER to create adventure culture in the remote area of Meghalaya.
Brigadier PM Bali, Group Commander ‘Flagged off’ the gala event. Mr Garod LSN Dykes, IAS DC, Mr Lakador Syiem, MPS, SP, Principals, faculty members and other civil administration officials of West Jaintia Hills encouraged the participants by trekking along with the young participants.
All Stalls specific to use of ground, use of magnetic compass, reading a map, introduction to First Aid, environment conservation and recruitment in defense forces were established reroute to use this opportunity to educate the cadets on these important aspects.
