Shillong, Oct 31: The North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) organized the event of RUN FOR UNITY on 31st October, 2018to mark the day as National Unity Day commemorating the 143rd Birth Anniversary of SardarVallabhbhai Patel, the iron-man and the first Home Minister of Independent India.
The Vice Chancellor flagged off the RUN at 7.50 a.m. which followed the route from the NEHU Campus to the Administrative Block via the adjacent Mawkynrohvillage.
Large number of students and employeesof the University participated in the event. The speech given by Sardar Patel on 12th February, 1949 was played for the benefit of the people gathered after the run along with the famous patriotic song, “Awaz Do Hum EkHain”, sung by Mohd. Rafi.
The RashtriyaEktaDiwas Pledge for integrity, unity and security of India was also made by the participants and organizers.Theprogramme ended with a brief speech by the Vice Chancellor followed by the prize distribution to the winners.
