The Railway Protection Force recovered contraband goods worth Rs. 1.69 crore 

Maligaon, June 13: Continuing the fight against transportation of contraband items in trains, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recovered several consignments of contraband itemsduring 6th to 9th June, 2021.

The RPF personnel recovered nearly 60 Kg of ganja worth Rs. 5.96 lakh during this period. The contraband items were recovered during regular checks and drives at various stations and trains over N. F. Railway.

In an incident on 6th June, 2021 RPF team and GRP staff of Agartala, while conducting joint checking at Agartala Railway Station, recovered 4 unclaimed bags containing 9 packets ganja weighing about 22 Kgs. Value of the ganja is Rs. 2.20 lakh (approx). Later, the recovered contraband was handed over to OC/GRP/Agartala (Tripura) for further course of action.

In a separate operation on that day, RPF team of RPF Post, Dharmanagar, while conducting checking in train No. 05663 DN (Agartala – Silchar Passenger) at Dharmanagar Railway Station under the supervision of IPF/Dharmanagar, recovered one unclaimed bag from the train.

On checking the bag, 02 packets ganja weighing 14 Kgs valued about Rs. 1.40 lakh were found. Later, the recovered contraband was handed over to Excise Department, Dharmanagar (Tripura) for disposal.

In an another incident on 9th June, 2021, Crime Prevention & Detection Squad and CIB team of Alipurduar conducted checking in train No. 03174 DN Kanchenjunga Express from New Bongaigaon – New Coochbehar. During search, 20.9 Kgs ganja worth about Rs. 2.09 lakh was recovered from the roof board of a coach of the train.Later, the recovered contrabands were handed over to OC/GRP/New Coochbehar for further course of action.

Again on 9th June, 2021, RPF teams of Barsoi and Samsi Posts jointly conducted drive in train No. 07520 DN Siliguri – Malda Court DEMU passenger against contraband items, liquor etc.During the drive, one person was apprehended with the recovery of 2.7 kgs ganja, worth Rs. 27 thousand. Later, the apprehended person along with the recovered contraband was handed over to OC/GRP/Barsoi for necessary action.

It may be mentioned here that RPF of N. F. Railway successfully recovered contraband goods worth more than Rs. 4.89 crore during the year 2020.During this year also, RPF recovered contraband goods worth about Rs. 1.69 crore from January up to May, 2021.
