The RBI Shillong organised AKAM field level financial literacy event at Mawpat Village

Shillong, June 07: As part of the Iconic Week Celebrations during the week June 06-12, 2022 under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) and the financial inclusion agenda of the Reserve Bank of India, a Field Level Financial Literacy Event was held at St Claret Hall, Mawpat Village, East Khasi Hills District on June 07, 2022.

The event was inaugurated by Shri P.Gangte, General Manager and Officer-in-Charge, Reserve Bank of India, Shillong and attended by the DGM, NABARD, AGM, State Bank of India, Zonal Office, Shillong, officials from SLBC, State Mission Manager, MSRLS, Asst. Secretary, Dorbar Shnong, Mawpat Village, other officials of banks and BCs operating in the area.

The General manager (O-i-C), RBI, Shillong informed the participants about the Iconic Week celebrations during the week June 06-12, 2022 under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) that is being observed nationwide to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence and the launch of the JanSamarth portal – a one-step digital portal for credit-linked Government schemes that directly connect beneficiaries to lenders.

He also explained the various aspects and benefits of banking, financial literacy and inclusion and the ultimate objective of financial well-being of the people. Smt Lipy Deori, DGM, NABARD and Shri Reisang Shingnaisui, AGM, SBI (FI) also addressed the participants during the programme.

The Officials of RBI, Shillong gave a presentation on the new developments in the field of digital transactions, viz., UPI, BHIM, USSD, various Social Security Schemes (SSS), various safety measures and the do’s and don’ts for safe digital banking, customer liability in case of fraudulent transactions, grievance redressal mechanism in the banking system, etc. An open house grievance redressal session was also conducted during the programme.

Around 80 participants comprising students, members of SHGs, small entrepreneurs, etc., participated in the programme. A total of 27 sanction letters amounting to ₹2.24 crore from the banks operating in the area were handed over to the beneficiaries.

As part of the event, well performing Branch Managers and Business Correspondents were felicitated as a gesture of reward and recognition of their good work towards financial inclusion and Priority Sector Lending.

A quiz session was also conducted and school bags with financial literacy (FL) messages printed thereon were distributed among 33 school students for greater dissemination of FL messages. The Assistant Secretary, Dorbar Shnong, Mawpat thanked the RBI for holding the event. The programme ended with a vote of thanks from RBI.
