The recovery rate at BSF Composite Hospital Shillong achieving more than 85%: UK Nayal

Shillong, August 14: In the month of March 2020, when COVID-19 started knocking the doors of Indian Population, Ministry of Home Affairs as well as State Government of Meghalaya declared the CAPF Composite Hospital, Shillong as “Dedicated Covid Health Center” with the capacity of 30 Bed out of the existing 50 Bed available in the Hospital.

Cases of COVID-19 started reporting at Composite Hospital, Shillong from the beginning of June 2020 and during the month of June only 11 cases reported out of which, 6 recovered by end of June 2020. From 1st week of July 2020 the number of cases of COVID-19 has seen a quantum jump and by end of July the number reached to 375.

The Hospital having the capacity of only 50 Beds with minimal number of doctors and paramedical staff expended its capacity and admitted each COVID-19 patients. With the selfless service of the Medicos and Para Medicos, the number of recovered patient’s gone upto 173 at the end of July 2020 with the 202 active cases at Hospital.

The team CH BSF, Shillong started the month of August with 202 active cases but by the time of reporting the total number of COVID-19 patients reached upto 423 out of which, 361 patients have been declared recovered by being tested twice consecutive negative, informed Dr A C Bhardwajan, Medical Superintendent of CAPF CH, Shillong.

The recovery rate at CH Shillong has overtaken the National recovery rate by achieving more than 85%. On the initiative of Shri Umesh Kumar Nayal, DIG/PRO BSF, recovered BSF troops and their families have come forward and more than 200 such recovered have expressed their willingness to donate plasma for the treatment of severe cases of COVID-19. This shows the commitment of BSF troops towards the National Service and Service to the Humanity.
