The Relative of Smti Agnes and Amita met Mr Cornad and appeal for CBI investigation

Shillong, Dec 04: Today the relative of Smti Agnes Kharshiing and Smti Amita Sangma met the Chief Minister Mr Cornad Sangma and submitted their memorandum to appeal to the state government that the investigation on the Sohshrieh incident be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)

In the memorandum submitted today to the Chief Minister the immediate family members of Smt. Agnes Kharshiing and Smt. Amita Sangma, thank the State Government, for all the assistance and intervention in the treatment of Kong Agnes Kharshiing and Kong Amita Sangma and also to the recent decision of the State Cabinet in agreeing to constitute an independent probe so as to have a free and impartial investigation.

With regard to the decision of the state government, the immediate family members of Mrs. Agnes Kharshiing and Mrs. Amita Sangma, requested the Chief Minister for  consideration to allow and facilitate the independent Investigation to be conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) so as to apprehend and arrest all those miscreants including those who masterminded this dastardly attack and brutal assault on women and who are indulging in unlawful activities in open connivance with administration authorities.

The immediate family members alleged that the failure of administration to address the issues of mining has resulted in the creation of criminal acts that are barbaric to society such as attacks on women. The news reports in the local papers of 9th November 2018, relating to another incident in the same district indicates the shocking prevailing situation in the area.

They also recall  the investigation into the recent murder of another RTI social activist late Poipynhun Majaw, on March 19, 2018, in the same area is yet to make any headway, similarly late Pearlystone Joshua Marbaniang, Sub-Inspector, and Incharge of Partharkhma Police Outpost in Ri-Bhoi District, was found murdered after he detained 32 coal laden trucks illegally transporting coal, on January 24, 2015, shockingly this case was registered as a suicide case instead of murder by the state agencies.

In July 2015, the son of Dolloi Elaka Nongkhlieh, East Jaintia Hills District, was murdered and till date justice is yet to be delivered.  The society has lost faith in a fair investigation or prosecution of the accused persons behind this attack if conducted by the state agencies and hence reiterate our request to your consideration for a time bound investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
