Maligaon, June 24: Continuing the fight against transportation of contraband items in trains, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recovered contraband goods worth about Rs. 47.55 lakh during 13th to 20th June, 2021.
The contraband items include morphin valued Rs. 43 lakh (approx.) and ganja worth about Rs. 4.55 lakh were recovered during regular checks and drives at various stations and trains over N. F. Railway.
In an incident on 13th June, 2021, RPF team of RPF Post, Agartala, while checking in Train No. 01666 DN (Habibganj Express) special at Agartala Railway Station, recovered 02 unclaimed bags containing 02 packets Ganja, weighing 3.5 kgs. Later, the recovered Ganja worth about Rs. 35 thousand was handed over to OC/GRP/Agartala for further legal action.
In another incident on 15th June, 2021 RPF team of RPF/Post/Kamkhya conducted joint checking with GRP/Kamakhya in Train No. 02346 DN (Saraighat Express) special at Kamakhya Railway Station.
During checking, one person was detained with one bag on suspicion who hurriedly trying to board the train standing on PF/No. 1. On checking of his bag, 4 packets of suspected morphin wrapped in polythene cover were found.
Immediately, the person along with recovered items was taken to GRP/Kamakhya/Out Post. On further interrogation, the person has been identified as a resident of Vill: Lilong Khunou, PO & PS- Lilong and Dist: Thoubal, Manipur.
GRPS/Kamakhya weighted the recovered items & found to be 2.710 Kgs and valued ascertained as Rs. 43 lakhs (approx.). The arrested person along with recovered articles was taken up by GRP/Kamakhya for further legal action.
On 17th June, 2021, during routine checking against contraband goods in Train No. 03174 DN (Kanchanjunga Express) special at Agartala Railway Station, RPF team of RPF/Post/Agartala recovered one unclaimed bag from berth of a coach.
On checking, 11 packets ganja weighing about 21 kgs were found. Later, the recovered ganja valued about Rs. 2.10 lakh was handed over to OC/GRP/Agartala for further legal action.
Again on 17th June, 2021, train escort party of RPF Outpost/Dhupguri while escorting Train No. 03148 DN (Uttar Banga Express) special, recovered one unclaimed bag in a coach which contained 16.40 kgs ganja.
On arrival of the train at Jalpaiguri Road station, the recovered ganja worth about Rs. 1.60 lakh was detrained and seized. Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to OC/GRP/New Mainaguri for taking further legal action.
Moreover on 20th June, 2021, on duty train escort party of Train No. 02510 DN (Guwahati-Bangalore cant) special detected 5 packets suspected to be ganja in one unclaimed bag in a coach of the train.
On arrival of the train at New Coochbehar Station, RPF team of New Coochbehar recovered 5.250 Kgs ganja worth about Rs. 50 thousand from the bag. Later, the recovered contrabands were handed over to GRP/New Coochbehar for further legal action.
It may be mentioned here that RPF of N. F. Railway recovered contraband goods worth about Rs. 1.69 crore from January up to May, 2021.
