Shillong, Oct 18: About 100 children an official of the South Asian Countries of Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and India under the umberall of South Asian Children’s Faourm converged today at Pinewood Hotel, Shillong to have an interactive session with the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr. Mukul Sangma.
The programme is part of the 53rd Annual SAARC Integration Children’s Camp held in Shillong. The Forum aims to promote a feeling of national unity, secularism and patriotism among the children and to develop the quality of leadership. It also provides them with opportunities to know their potentials and to cultivate the interests of childrcn in academic, cultural, and social activities.
Most importantly, the Forum provides them an opportunity to know ab’out different cultures and traditions and foster the spirit of love and brotherhood. In his speech, the Chief Minister said that such programmes is imperative for the children as they provide a platform to learn about other country’s culture, tradition and aspects of diverse communities adding that this platform will help the young minds to carry jointly the spirit of love and brotherhood as has been the objective of the Forum.
Asserting that the children as future leaders have a very important role to play in shaping the nation, the Chief Minister said that children should learn and respect each other and imbibe in their harts the spirit of love and compassion. He said that this is an opportunity and empoer the youth so that in future they can learn to create opportunities of their own. “Each one of you must be ambassadors to pursue the same objectives that the Forum is conceptualized for and each one of you is capable to contribute,” said the Chief Minister while encouraging the children to go to their respective countries and make a difference because, with a strong conviction, the young minds can definitely make a impact to create a strong and constructive society.
The Chief Minister said that Meghalaya will be receptive to suggestions and ideas hmed by the Forum and will partner with the Forum to help the children of the State to learn to loveone another and to live in mutual co-existence for a bright future . Later, the children got an opportunity to interact with the Cbief Minister. (SP News)
