Shillong, Nov 14: The Minister in charge Cooperation Mr. H D R Lyngdoh inaugurated the 60th All India Cooperative Week Celebration at U Soso Tham Auditorium on 14th November 2013 organized by the Cooperation Department, Government of Meghalaya along with the State Level Cooperative Federation.
The main theme of the celebration is “Cooperative for Socio-Economic Resurgence in Changing Times” and the day’s topic is “Cooperative Governance, Leadership and Reforms”.
Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, Mr. H D R Lyngdoh said that the Cooperative Movement in India is one of the largest in the world initially started with a limited activity for dispensation of rural credit. Keeping with the changes in times where different forms of economic enterprise operate, it becomes important and imperative that Cooperatives as a people oriented institutions should have a competitive ability to excel the other economic enterprise, he added.
Mr. Lyngdoh further reiterated that in the prevailing globalised environment, Cooperatives have to ensure their autonomy and competitiveness by adopting a vibrant policy of professionalism in management and due prominence for human resource development, which can go along in changing times. H also mentioned about the characteristic of good governance and leadership to facilitate effective functioning of cooperative organizations and thereby energizing the world culture of cooperatives.
Principal Secretary, Cooperation Department Mr. H Marwein highlighted the background and importance of the Cooperative Movement. He asserted that cooperative movement helps in uplifting the economy of the people and benefits mostly the farmers sector of the society. He call upon both the government and the cooperators to work together for the progress and smooth functioning of the organization.-
Messages of Vice-President of India, Union Agriculture Minister, Union Home Minister, Minister for Rural Development, Governor of Meghalaya and President of National Cooperative Society were read during the function.
