A delegation of 15 members of the Khasi traditional chief will meet Dr Mukul

Shillong, Oct 2: In an emergent three hour marathon meeting, the Grand Council of Chiefs, comprising of Ka Dorbar Ki Khlieh Nongsynshar Ka Ri Hynniewtrep, Federation of Khasi States, Ka Dorbar Ki Dolloi, Ki Sirdarship and Council of Nokmas today resolved to meet Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on 3rd October 2013, to urge the Government to urgently address the matter arising out of the letter from the Ministry of Home Affairs, in consultation with the three Autonomous District Councils.

With regards to the prevailing law and order situation in the State, the Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya recalled that on 29th October 2012, the Chiefs through its representative who was then a member of the HLC Committee, Dr Balajied S Syiem, had submitted it views to the Government, High Level Committee on Influx recommending a series of measures such as amending and enforcement of the Meghalaya Land Transfer Act, strengthening the present District Council Acts and Rules of the Traditional Institutions, including implementation of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act in the Sixth Schedule Areas.

The Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya, also expressed the view that without the involvement of the Local Authorities such as Dorbar Shnong, Syiemship, Lyngdohship, Sirdarship, Dolloiship, Wahadadar, and Nokmaship, any mechanism to  check influx or infiltration would prove futile, as there are only 29 Police Stations, 5 Beat House and 36 Outposts covering about 3600 odd villages in entire Khasi & Jaintia Hills, while there were only 19 Police Stations, 6 Beat House and  about 30 outpost covering about 3000 odd villages approximately in entire Garo Hills.

The Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya further urged the 3367 Khasi Pnar Clan Dorbar to convene their clan durbar and to notify their authorized persons empowered to issue No-objection Certificate’s (NOC’s) in connection with the issue of Schedule Tribe Certificates, and to also inform the KHADC and the various Deputy Commissioners of their authorized representatives including their address and contact details.
