A national conference on the topic religion and social political was held at Synod College

Shillong, Oct 12: A National Conference on the theme “Religion vis-à-vis Socio Political, Ecological and Gender Issues: A Historical Perspectives”  was held at Synod College for two days.

The Conference was inaugurated by Shri V.H.Pala,MP and former union Minister of State Govt. of India. While addressing the inaugural function he said that gender issue has been a major issue especially in Delhi.

He further said, we are fortunate in our state and with our matrilineal system; our women have much more freedom as compared to those in the other parts of the country. He also said that even though there are many religions in the country yet we have been able to maintain our unity as a nation which has been a pride for us as a great nation in the world.

Papers from resource persons and scholars from across the country were presented in this conference. The papers included in areas such as, cross-cultural debates on the key aspects of the theme, understanding the social context of religious traditions, the role of religion in the social construction of gender, the influences that religions have on women and vice versa.(SP News)
